We are ¡°The Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn¡¯s Projects¡± under the initiative of HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn. While accompanying Their Majesties the King and Queen on royal visits to various parts of Thailand, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn has witnessed for herself the problems of poverty, malnutrition, a deteriorating environment, and fragile health in local people, particularly children and youth. In 1980, HRH Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, therefore, initiated ¡°The Project for Child and Youth Development in Remote Areas¡±.
"I therefore encourage my team to note down what we have done for dissemination and educational benefit, which will lead to empowerment and equality in living for all global citizens.....In the present world, a country will develop and make progress only if its citizens are well-educated. A globalizing world entails new challenges, notably i.e., technological advances that make all issues intertwined. We can see greater disparities in living, thoughts including basic needs. Those involved in national development should rethink more prudently, but I¡¯m convinced there is nothing wrong with our present endeavors, still working well in the remote rural areas. Previously, we just thought that ¡°literacy¡± would be sufficient for rural people, but now they have equal rights to people living in town in the pursuit of education. We do need new strategies for development. ----- Speech of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn
On the occasion of a Sino-Thai seminar on ¡°Developing the Power of Youth: Building a Common Foundation of Quality for the Future¡±At Samanachan Room, KASIKORNBANK, March 27, 2007
1. Background
Both Thailand and China have been good neighbors for long, sharing plenty of affinity in geographical location, ethnicity, religion, art and cultural background. Despite their vastly different sizes and the number of population, both countries share a common goal in their national development, focusing mainly on sustainable stability and prosperity through the development of youth. It is therefore worth soliciting efforts to create a Sino-Thai Youth Development Network via website which will render broader benefits in national development, and meanwhile foster ties between the two countries.
2. Features of the Website
The website, which compiles information on betterment in the quality of life of Thai and Chinese youth in remote and underdeveloped areas, is presented in three languages: Thai, Chinese and English. The Office of Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn¡¯s Projects is responsible for the Thai content, while the Chinese version is under the responsibility of the All-China Youth Federation (ACYF). KASIKORNBANK, meanwhile, supports an initiative to develop the website in English.
3. Objectives of the Website
The website will serve as a venue for Thai and Chinese youth and those involved in child and youth development projects to exchange ideas with one another as well as learning related activities for improving the quality of life of children and youth. In addition, they will be able to apply knowledge and first-hand experience from different circumstances to their own work. Acting as an e-coach, the website will provide interested persons with up-to-date and useful information at all times.
4. Desired Effects of the Website
The website will set an example for Thai and Chinese children and youth as well as those involved in child and youth development work, and provide them with insights into the meaning of ¡°the quality of life¡±. The target groups will have a chance to harmoniously assimilate cross-cultural education, and the website will eventually become a network of child and youth development for the benefit of all children and youth around the globe.
